#15: The real school’s mascot carried over into the movie
Ridgemont High was brought to life using Van Nuys High School in the San Fernando Valley, a campus that fit the film’s setting and atmosphere. Because the production shot on location, much of the school’s real look and feel naturally filtered into the movie without needing major alterations.

One detail they kept was the mascot. Van Nuys High’s teams are known as the Wolves, and the filmmakers simply carried that identity over to Ridgemont High. It’s a small touch, but it adds another layer of authenticity, grounding the fictional school in the character of the real one that stood in for it.
