#31: David Lynch passed on directing, saying the script wasn’t his style
Before Amy Heckerling was selected to direct Fast Times at Ridgemont High, the studio approached David Lynch with the offer. He read the script and acknowledged that it was funny, but ultimately felt it didn’t align with the kind of films he was drawn to making at the time.

Lynch politely declined, leaving the project open for a new voice — which turned out to be Heckerling. His decision ended up shaping two careers: Lynch continued down his singular, surreal path, while Fast Times became Heckerling’s breakout and a defining teen comedy of the 1980s.
