#29: Speedometers That Wrapped Around
Instead of the round dials we see today, many cars from the ’50s and ’60s featured horizontal speedometers—long, ruler-like strips that swept from side to side as speed increased. Some even changed color the faster you went, going from green to amber to red.

It was visual, almost theatrical, and gave drivers a unique sense of motion. Watching the bar move across the dash felt more dynamic than watching a needle rise. Eventually, traditional circular gauges prevailed due to their readability and space-saving benefits.
