#5: Pop-Up Car Headlights
First appearing in the 1930s, pop-up headlights brought a touch of futuristic flair to nighttime driving. When raised, they sliced through darkness and fog; when hidden, they gave cars a sleek, almost secretive profile. But by the 1970s, their popularity dimmed.

The very design that made them stylish also made them impractical—poor aerodynamics, faulty seals, and a tendency to let in water and road debris. Still, the charm never entirely disappeared. In recent years, a few high-end manufacturers have reimagined the concept, blending nostalgia with modern engineering to give the classic pop-up a refined second life.
