During the summer of 1955, Dean began working on his final film, Giant, opposite Elizabeth Taylor and Rock Hudson. Based on Edna Ferber’s epic novel, the film spanned decades and required Dean to age onscreen—a challenge he embraced.

He played Jett Rink, an ambitious outsider turned oil tycoon, with simmering intensity. On set, he clashes with director George Stevens and even with Hudson, but he also earns respect for his commitment. Dean reportedly mumbled lines and mired himself in the role.
