Cuba, the largest island in the Caribbean by both area and population, holds a prominent place in the region’s geography. With a total land area of 109,884 square kilometers (42,426 square miles), it ranks as the 17th largest island in the world and the 8th largest island nation globally.

Cuba features an impressive 5,746 kilometers of coastline, though it shares only 28.5 kilometers of land borders. Geographically, the island is positioned east of the Gulf of Mexico, south of the Florida Straits, west of the North Atlantic Ocean, northeast of the Yucatán Channel, and northwest of the Windward Passage.
