#31: The Communist Party in Cuba
Since 1965, the Communist Party of Cuba (Partido Comunista de Cuba, or PCC) has been the sole ruling political force in the country. Founded by Fidel Castro and others, the party’s ideological roots stretch back to early communist movements in Cuba as far back as 1923.

Under the 1976 constitution, the PCC was established as the only legal political party, solidifying its authority as the central power in Cuban governance. A constitutional revision in 1992 further reinforced its position, describing the PCC as the “regulated guardian of the Cuban government.”
