The morning felt heavy as Jamie moved through the kitchen, his stomach knotted with dread. He scrambled breakfast, but his mind was elsewhere—on the questions he could no longer ignore. Lauren sat silently at the table, spooning cereal, her wide eyes making him wonder what she knew.

Then Stacy appeared, her steps slow, her face pale and weary. She slid into a chair across from him, her hands trembling slightly as she drew in a long breath. Looking Jamie straight in the eyes, she said softly, “We need to talk.”
