Dr. Collins Tried to Distract Her
Back in the hospital room, Dr. Collins tried to ease the thick tension with a bit of small talk. “So, how’s it going being a mom?” he asked gently, forcing a soft smile. Sarah responded with a slight nod and a weak smile, but she remained mostly silent.

“Your baby’s beautiful,” he added, hoping to comfort her. She gave another slight nod, and for a moment her expression softened. Still, her eyes never left the door. No matter what was said, her focus stayed fixed on what—or who—was coming, and the anxiety never left her face.
