#7: Connecticut – Toni Harp (2013–2019)
New Haven’s first woman mayor, Toni Harp, brought decades of legislative experience to City Hall. During her tenure, she prioritized education, public health, and reducing income inequality. She expanded access to early childhood programs and worked to decrease homelessness through compassionate housing policies.

Though her final term stirred political debate, Harp’s legacy remains that of a barrier-breaking figure with a deep commitment to public service. Her leadership helped shape a more inclusive, resilient vision for the Elm City.
