#33: His Last Performance
Indianapolis, June 26, 1977—Elvis stepped on stage for the final time. His health was failing, his speech occasionally slurred, but he still held court. Wearing a white jumpsuit laced with gold, he ended the concert with “Can’t Help Falling in Love,” the same song that had closed hundreds of his shows.

As the curtain dropped, fans wept, sensing something final in the air. Elvis gave a slight bow, kissed his fingertips, and disappeared backstage. That night, no one said “last.” But history would. A few weeks later, he was gone. And no one would ever hear that voice live again.
