#11: Segregated Seating Traditions
Historically, Saudi Arabia enforced strict gender segregation in public places. Restaurants often had “family sections” for women and children, and “single male” sections. Weddings and cultural events were also typically split. Though these rules have relaxed in recent years, the tradition is still visible in many settings.

For American visitors, the idea of different entrances or seating areas for men and women feels unusual. In Saudi Arabia, it stems from cultural and religious norms around privacy. Even today, many families prefer segregated spaces as a way of honoring tradition.
