#12: Diriyah
Diriyah, near Riyadh, is the birthplace of the Saudi state. Its mud-brick architecture and narrow alleyways reflect centuries of history. Once the seat of the first Saudi dynasty, it’s now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, carefully restored as part of the kingdom’s cultural revival and Vision 2030 projects.

Unlike modern Riyadh, Diriyah feels like stepping into the past. Visitors can explore palaces, mosques, and markets that once defined the kingdom’s origins. For Saudis, it represents national pride. For tourists, it’s a rare chance to see authentic desert heritage preserved alongside a rapidly modernizing country.
