#13: Drifting (Tafheet)
Tafheet, or desert drifting, is a risky street sport unique to Saudi youth culture. Drivers speed on empty highways or desert roads, swerving wildly and creating clouds of smoke while onlookers cheer. Though illegal, it’s been a popular underground activity for decades, especially among thrill-seeking young men.

To outsiders, it looks reckless — but in Saudi culture, it became a form of rebellion and expression for generations with limited entertainment options. Today, it’s both condemned and romanticized, a uniquely Saudi phenomenon born from the clash between tradition and modern youth culture.
