#8: Qasr al-Farid (The Lonely Castle)
Qasr al-Farid is a massive tomb carved directly from a single sandstone rock. Standing alone in the desert of Madain Saleh, it’s often called “The Lonely Castle.” Built by the Nabataeans over 2,000 years ago, it resembles Petra but with its own isolated, haunting presence.

Unlike Petra in Jordan, Qasr al-Farid is remote and less crowded, making it feel more mysterious. Its unique carving and solitary setting make it one of Saudi Arabia’s most iconic ancient sites — a reminder of a civilization that left its mark deep in the desert.
