#17: Her Husband Went to Save Her
Chief Japasaw, Pocahontas’s brother-in-law, initially believed her abduction was a temporary move—one that would be resolved with diplomacy and restraint. He assumed the settlers, bound by their code of honor, wouldn’t dare harm a young mother. Choosing caution, he held back his warriors, hoping to avoid bloodshed.

But not everyone shared his faith. Kocom, Pocahontas’s husband, couldn’t sit idle. Fueled by love and desperation, he attempted a rescue, only to be captured before reaching her. From the bowels of the ship, Pocahontas witnessed the heartbreaking outcome—her husband’s life taken before her eyes, and hope slipping further from reach.
