#4: Ronald Reagan, First Elected 1980
Ronald Reagan won the 1980 election by offering optimism and strength at a time when America felt uncertain. A former actor and governor of California, he promised to restore confidence, cut taxes, and rebuild the military. His upbeat message, “Morning in America,” helped him defeat Jimmy Carter in a landslide.

Reagan’s approval started around 51%, dipping during a recession but climbing again as the economy recovered. His sunny personality and strong communication skills earned him the nickname “The Great Communicator.” He ended his presidency with a 63% approval rating and an average of about 52.8% overall.
